"Beautiful People" looks good to Josh Holmes.
The coming-of-age drama from the ABC Family channel featured Holmes' "Greener on
the Other Side," a track off of his album "A Table 4 One."
Getting the song played on a series with access to more than 88 million homes
was a coup for the Crown Point singer-songwriter.
"Any time I can get exposure on national television, it's a dream come true,"
Holmes, 27, said. "I never in my wildest dreams thought I would ever do anything
this good, you know? I feel very lucky."
Holmes wrote and sang "Greener on the Other Side," which also shows off his
guitar, keyboard and bass skills.
"It's a breakup song. It's about callin' a truce, pretty much," Holmes said.
Premiering this summer, "Beautiful People" enlisted the executive producer of
TV's "Dawson's Creek."
Getting his song played on an episode of the cable-satellite series earned
Holmes a couple of thousand dollars.
The money's nice, but he's got an upcoming gig that provides a jolt going beyond
monetary satisfaction.
On Saturday, Feb. 4, Holmes will perform at a tribute in Clear Lake, Iowa, for
the legendary Buddy Holly.
The rocker known for "Peggy Sue" died in a 1959 plane crash after he, Ritchie
Valens and J.P. "Big Bopper" Richardson played Clear Lake at the Surf Ballroom.
The dance hall will host the
Feb. 4 salute.
"My lifelong dream has been to play there," Holmes said. "I'm actually opening
up for Buddy Holly's band, the Crickets."
Valens and Richardson died with Holly in the plane crash, which took place
shortly after takeoff in bad winter weather.
"La Bamba," a 1987 movie, told the story of Valens and the tragic accident.
"When I was 9 years old, I saw 'La Bamba,' " Holmes said. "That's what got me to
start to play guitar."
